Conferences that solve current IT challenges

Managing Network Performance & Availability
Obtain higher availability, capacity and performance. Solve service level management issues.

September 7, 2006
9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Stephens Convention Center
Rosemont (O'Hare) Illinois

Overview

Large and medium sized enterprises require mission critical management and availability of their networks. The challenges network managers face include providing higher availability, general capacity and performance and service level management issues.  In an era where IT departments are increasingly tying themselves to business requirements these areas take on an even greater significance.

Conference Program

8:00am-9:00am - Continental Breakfast

9:00am-10:00am
Your Network and the Future:  How to Design and Manage a Network Capacity Planning Program
Rick Nieto, WAN Design Engineer, IT Department, Lucent Technologies

Proper capacity planning is essential to keep the network healthy and ready to meet the future needs of the enterprise.  As the requirements of the business change so do the demands on the network.  The network must be able to adapt and respond to the needs of the user base.  But how do you accurately plan for and forecast the needs of the network?  Rick Nieto is an experienced WAN engineer from a large enterprise IT department and will discuss how he has designed a proper planning capacity program taking into account the needs of the enterprise.

10:30am-11:30am
Ensuring WAN Resources are Tuned and Responsive to the Priorities of Business
Mark Urban, Director, Product Marketing, Packeteer

Urban

This discussion provides a brief introduction to a more intelligent approach to addressing some of the unique IT challenges of the distributed enterprise.  You’ll discover how a comprehensive WAN application traffic management strategy can be combined with additional automated intelligence to make the WAN more adaptive and responsive to the business requirements of the distributed enterprise.

Topics that will be covered include:

  • How to get more from the resources you have

  • Methods to minimize unnecessary IT infrastructure or operational costs

  • How to Align IT performance with business priorities

  • Methods to reduce the time and complexities of IT administration

11:30am-12:30pm
Identifying and Resolving Network Centric Application Performance Problems
Kevin Jablonski, Director, Technical Engineering, Shunra

Jablonski

This session will provide the technical reasons for poor distributed application performance, and how to eliminate deployment failures. It will discuss the role of network conditions and application characteristics that can cause these failures and suggest available solutions for fixing these problems during operational readiness phase (pre-deployment). Real-life examples covering business applications and IP Convergence will be presented.

12:30pm-1:30pm - Luncheon

1:30pm-2:30pm
Understanding Methodologies and Implementing Best Practices for WAN Acceleration
Craig Stouffer, Vice President, Silver Peak Systems

Stouffer

This session will focus specifically on WAN acceleration technology.  It will provide an in-depth explanation of how each technique works, how to implement it (router configuration, QoS, etc), and describe  lessons learned in real-world implementation

3:00pm-4:00pm
Working Outside the Box: A Guide for Network Troubleshooting
Christopher Huffman, Director, Consulting Services, MTM Technologies

Huffman

How do you know what is causing your network operation and performance problems?  It might be insufficient bandwidth, distance related latency, poorly deployed applications, too much of a certain type of traffic, loose cables, or bad networking configurations.  It could be a combination of all these factors or something completely unrelated, so it is essential to have a methodology or framework in place to effectively troubleshoot your network problems.

But don't let yourself be limited by the framework - solutions don't come gift wrapped.  By understanding how your network works, what the components are and how they fit together, and when to abandon legacy procedures and take a leap of faith you can become a key asset to your company.  This session will provide you with a methodology to follow when troubleshooting, and the confidence to try new approaches when all else fails.  You'll come away with a new perspective and become much more adept at keeping your network at top operating levels.

4:00pm-5:00pm
How to Effectively Communicate the Value of Network Performance to Enterprise Executives
Panel Moderator: David Langlais, VP, ProactiveNet

What is the impact of the network on the business?  How do you communicate to the executive level the importance of a healthy network?  How can you better articulate the need for future upgrades and investments?

This experienced panel of enterprise IT department professionals will provide you with strategies and tactics to make more efficient utilization of your current network, better understand the future needs of the network and how to present the information needed to support investments in network upgrades.
